POWER TRIPPER

Power trippers! They can be very difficult to reason with, totally annoying, self centered, WRONG, and usually single minded. How do you communicate with these people? With tact.

Someone who deals with power struggle issues is some whom feels a need to control others, the purpose of ones controlling behavior will usually be due to one of two things.

A. The person will either be someone whom is actually rather insecure and likes to control others to give them a sense of control over them selves or their own lives.

B. The person will be someone who's got a mean streak and just doesn't see why people don't see things their way, seeing as their always right.

In the case of type A in the work place, this person is likely to be an employee and may have a tendancey to suck up to the boss.

When such a person is throwing their weight around at work when they don't have any more authority than yourself, it's proberlly wise to take no notice of this person. Upon ignoring this person when they are on a dishing up orders rampage, they are likely to become quite annoyed with you, be prepared. For you to ignore this persons directions, it's best to have a logic reason why you disagree that you can easily explain. When the person with the power struggle problem enquires why you are not cooperating, answer them 'Because i disagree with the idea.' Providing that you are both employees on an equal level and the nature of the work doesn't involve a lot of team work, then that's all you need to say. In most cases it's best to keep communtication with the power tripper brief and direct, so as not to entice a situation where they are screaming in your face with frustration. Arguments with such a person should be avoided at all costs as these people have a tendency to also have anger management issues when others oppose their ideas.

If a power tripper demands an explanation from you upon disagreement, pose your idea to the person backed up by why your idea makes more sense than theirs. If your idea is really better, then this person might just agree with you, if it's not and your really just sick of them telling you what to do, then you will proberlly just anger them further. If you do manage to unintentionally anger this person a bit much for your liking, perhaps it's best to walk away and resort to avoiding them all together. There is little sense in attempting to argue with this person because they could proberlly go on forever if you gave them half the chance.

If you are don't have the best sort of social skills, you could try talking to your boss about this person. Be careful about taking this approach though. In doing so, make it clear that the reason you are discussing this person is not because of any personal issues, it's because this persons ideas and controlling behavior are causing friction between staff, or the persons ideas are clearly not very good ones.

In the case of type B this person is usually someone who has one hell of an ego perhaps due to their position of authority. In most cases this type of person will be a boss or someone on a higher rankning level than you. If this is the case then it's proberlly wise to do as they say more often than not. Unless of course this person is clearly wrong and your not the only one who can see that as black and blue as it is. Considering such a situation, you should be inclined to gently mention your much better idea to the power tripper and get someone whom agrees with you to pipe up and suggest why your way is more efficient. Bringing the bigger guns back down to earth will generally take some convincing, but with a bit of convincing such a person is likely to be intelligent enough to acknowledge an idea that is in fact better than their own. So fundamentally the best if not the only way to approach this type of person, is in a`majority rules type manner, which involves approaching this person with at least one other person by your side for support.

If you don't have the guts to deal with power tripper type B, then you have two options. 1. Learn to tolerate the person and don't let them get to you. Do as they say and learn to live with it. 2. Find a new job.

If you decide to find a new job and you leave your last job feeling that you were treated with disrespect or unfairly, i would recommend reporting the person to work rights justice people or making a formal complaint about the individual to the company. Doing this may result in the individual in quetion learning a lesson or two so then perhaps this person will learn how they should treat people in future.

STUDY HABITS

One of the most challenging part of being a student comes during tests, RIGHT? Since the semester started almost a month ago, welcoming it with some sort of parties and social gatherings that most of us haven't moved on yet, the academic atmosphere is flaunting over the air loudly telling that examination days are on its way.

Allow me to share you with my most precious secrets in the world of education and learning. You may want to try and consider practicing some of them:

1. Learning = Maturity: Maturity = Learning

I always believe that learning goes with maturity. Don't push yourself to the limits, putting into rush of learning everything in just a single snap of your hands. Take time, learn to have a break they can restore your mental energy.

2. Put everything into BALANCE.

Studying and learning does not always require you to hold books and spending the whole day inside the library. Learn to balance everything. There are seven days in a week. Always make use of your ample time.

3. MAKE it as PART of your ROUTINE.

They say that the best time to study is during the night or after you woke up. Try spending 10 to 15 minutes browsing your notes everyday.

4. PLAN ahead and MANAGE your TIME

Knowing your priorities will be a great help. Managing your time in order to accomplished your desired goal will surely lessen some of your burdens. If any undesirable instances happens your just an inch away to your solutions.

5. Make it WORK.

Planning without implementing is useless, you just wasted your time. Drive and Initiative is your key that will ignite your engines.

6. Divide and Conquer

Problems are everywhere. It comes and it goes. When problem comes, do not hide or run away from it, instead, learn not to QUIT.

7. FOCUS

Secluding your self for sometime will help you clearly visualize every step of the way.

8. CALL A FRIEND

Always open your communication lines. You may want to seek some help from a distant friend who have a better understanding on some matters which may enlighten you.

9. REFLECT

After a tiring days / week of workloads, reflect and evaluate whether you are still in parallel to what you have laid on your goals.

ENJOY EVERY MOMENT OF YOUR LIFE..... (', ')

Weekend Island-Hopping

Due to the city wide power interruption last Friday night my housemate and I had small talks and some dillydally. Waiting for the power to be restored I fell asleep early that night so the next morning I was awake to early so with my housemate.

Our usual Saturday routines had some changes.
While having coffee and watching TV for breakfast one of our friend sent an SMS telling us that he will be dropping early to borrow hte electric rice cooker and some stuff cause they're heading for a week end stay at Pundaquit in San Antonio, Zambales.

Since we dont have anything to do for the week end, we decided to join my friend (who eventually planned the outing with her college friends) instead of the usual week end scenario in our own houses.

All were set, we arrived in Pundaquit past 3 in the afternoon due to some delays on the road. Over night we planned for what to do the next day and we came up with an island tour.

Early the next day as planned w
e look for some boats to be rented to have an island tour in a place they call Anuwangin. The boat travel took about twenty five minutes in rough waters. At first I was a little bit uneasy riding that boat but when we arrived to the place every cloud in my mind just pop out.
I was stunned with the lagoon of the island. Exploring the sandy shore of Anuwangin and its beautiful scenery and great picturesque of the place. To add with that, we had a chance to be acquainted with Sam Milbey and Bea Alonzo who were both having a film shoot being directed by Loren D. himself.

What a great experience
we had with that fascinating island in Zambales.

Some Good Things Never Last

"In every one of us there are two ruling and directing principles, whose guidance we follow wherever they may lead; the one being an innate desire of pleasure; the other, an acquired judgment which aspires after excellence." - Socrates

We often say that the only constant thing in this world is CHANGE. It is a part of a greater process called evolution, innovation, transformation, and / or anything that tries to make a difference with a goal of achieving something better.

We are greatly influenced with the sports ethic :
NEVER QUIT. As i quote a child in a local television commercial when he feels like being screwed up when he already had and did everything just to be a part of a basketball team her mom always says - " never say die, never loose hope, for tomorrow is another day!". A little bit funny but reality check it has a great impact.

If that game is our career, profession or business we might always think of winning. But the questions of "
should i stay" or "should i kept going?" are the most difficult questions to anyone even to some career counselors or coaches. There is no single answer in particular but to help you ease your burden and to help you decide take some of the following considerations.

1. How did you get into the situation? Were you encouraged by a spouse, parent, friend or mentor? You have a better chance of fulfilling your own dream than someone else's.

2. Is there a little voice in your head that whispers, "Maybe you should be doing X instead?" Listen up, as the sports coaches say, especially if you can put a name on "X" ,and if you've been playing this game awhile. That "little voice" may be your intuition speaking.

3. Does your new venture refuse to go away? If you try to leave your job, do you find yourself getting caught up in a new project or rewarded with a new promotion?

One speaker, accepting a local "Entrepreneur of the Year" award, told the audience, "I hated this business. I tried to sell it but nobody would buy me out. I was forced to fix it up and, in the process, found success."

4. What is the universe telling you?
Are you getting customers?
Is your progress considerably faster or slower than your peers and competitors?
Has anything clicked into place for you, seemingly without effort?

5. What is your own historical trend?
Do you tend to give up too easily or hang on too long?

6. Are you still having fun?
A loss of enthusiasm can be temporary, especially if you're fatigued or have just experienced a setback. Long-term discouragement will create negative energy and ultimately destroy your career or business.

7. Must your decision be either-or?
Can you continue a business part-time with a manager? Can you look for a new job but also start a business? Multi-tasking can fragment energies but also offer unparalleled opportunities.

In every career path you should have to make wise decision. Stop struggling and focus your mind. Set your own goals, objectives and perspective. Most of all take time.

CHOOSE IT

We are now in the middle of the month of MAY. For us working in the academe we usually won't get too much vacation as some students do. Just like now while my students are working with their special project under my Database Management System subject I decided to sit down and write this stuff.

Education is really a continuous process of learning especially to us, -the IT people, for if you stopped you will probably get lost in that avenue of learning which would lead your career to global competitiveness in the electronic and computing world.

During the previous days, enrollment started not only in our college (the College of Computer Studies) but within the different colleges here in Gordon College.

I have been into the academe for quite sometimes, starting my career as a day high teacher to the now college instructor teaching all subjects related to computers and information technology.

During my service to different schools, colleges and universities, Computing and Information Technology courses are amongst the most chosen baccalaureate courses.

For those who just graduated from high school who are having a hard time choosing your courses take my piece of advice, you should have to consider IT related courses not that I'm benchmarking my course but as the demand for electronic computing and information technology grows it would proportionately require greater number of IT skilled workers and professionals.
_________________________________________________________________

At the College of Computer Studies in Gordon College in Olongapo City, you will have all the opportunities of learning the best and latest trends in the computing, information and technology world from their array of highly skilled, technically trained and well experienced instructors making you equally global competitive in the electronic world.

...........lead me to your way

I'm a voyager wandering to seek the true meaning of happiness.....

For the past couple of weeks I have been perplexed of which I don't know. Seems like something is bothering me. I keep on asking myself why do I'm stack on this trance. Until four of my caring and concerned colleagues got my attention last midnight.

It all started way back during the 10th founding anniversary of our college that I started unconsciously acting gross and rude and that honestly is beyond my will. That incident brought me into hurting some of them.

Last night we've went out to watch a movie at the Time Square Cinema but before that, we spend our dinner in a cozy place nearby the cinema that these four (marc, chris, bL and hazel) colleagues of mine, fished me out for a serious talk that they've opened me up but due to time constraint we only settle the issue halfway but I guess all of us just let that issue died on its own natural death. We'll anyway we have already spoken what we wanted to tell.

We were watching the movie but I couldn't focus for which I'm trying to reflect on what they've told me. After the movie that "Laida and Miguel" played the major character who were portrayed by of course Sarah and John Loyd, we (I'm together with these four people) bid goodbye to some of our companions which includes our motherly dean, Mam Linda (thanks for sponsoring our movie tickets), in short we parted ways but the five of us stick together trying to gig out that we ended up bringing a sumptuous midnight banquets in my place.

Over the dawn, cause they went home by merely 2 AM, I'm still absurd of what happened that until this very morning after having two hours sleep I already knew and understand why I'm being like this. That I'm thinking a lot of stuff for some of my plans were a bit swerving and to add more is on my personal and family matters affecting me very much that I didn't knew I was misbehaving lately.

To all of you guys, thank you for staying with me during those bewildered times and your courage to tell me those words last night was greatly appreaciated on my part. It would help me grow. You were all great, Chris for your unselfish intent to reconcile us, Marc for that undying guidance shed to us, BL (wag ka crying lady ha) and Hazel (wag ka din TH lagi 'neh), ".......sorry na ha".

By now I think I do knew another definition of happiness aside from friendship is to accept everything without ifs and buts.......another bridges and roads were opened for a new avenue of our friendships.

What we need now to do is to burn all those calories that we ate lolz, my goodness, it wrecks my diet truly and my body clock once again was tormented but that's fine as long as I'm with you guys.

superb atmosphere

The first day I stepped into the doors of the College of Computer Studies in Gordon College I knew it.........

"......people who were excellent team players and possessing the ability and eagerness to work under pressure, this, I can affirm as I witness their adrenaline to work, their collaborative effort as they unite - the faculty and staff of this department...."

Enthusiastically boosted with high spirit of professionalism we did it. We have successfully celebrated the annual cyber week for the year 2009 with a theme; -"Making Intelligent Things Happen", in line with the PSITE Region 3 Chapters 5th Students Conference on Information and Technology Education and Skills Competition held during the week long celebration of the departments activity bagging essential roots for some of the skills competition.

The Cyber Week started last Monday, January 26, 2009 and during that week, we had concluded a lot of activities including a batch presentation per block, a testimonial speech, digital poster making, junior and senior quiz bees', JAVA and C# programming, wall mural, pop dance and flash animations. Included as a part of the weeks activity is the 5th Student Conference on Information Technology and Skills Competition which was participated by almost forty two colleges and universities in the region.

To highlight the week long celebration is the search for Mr. and Ms. CCS 2009 which was held at the Marikit Park in Olongapo City last January 30.

Even as a newbie, I was accepted and was given that rare kind of opportunity working with them and sharing them what I have (considering I was once a part lecturer and molder of a competitively equal college somewhere in Olongapo). This kind of people are really great, all of us makes a powerful skills and talents of synergy.

To my colleagues two thumbs up for that job well done. To our mentor, the guru herself, our very own Mudgee (we all fondly call her that way) -Mam Linda, your so unique in every sense, very passionate, understanding and inspiring thanks for accepting me as such.

Thanks for that out of town Baguio Trip (Feb. 7, 2009)....I lovE it.....

complacent....

The year of the OX is wading its shadow. Reflecting what I have been and done yesteryear, im quite a better man now.

In the midst of our lives we often look back, trying to live our present life in a best way that we could, but in as much as we wanted all things to be done in accordance with our will, we still sometimes or worst most often fail and dismayed.

Living my life for the past twenty eight years is not that easy but I guess those can be considered as spices to our lives.

Reckoning the grievance of one of my closest friend yesterday extruding an ambiguous notion I was a little bit shocked as it haunts me. What's haunting me?, this you may ask.

It is the mere fact that you can not exist by your own - alone. Even how courageous, sturdy and firm you are you will be still dependent to your family. Yes dependent....your complete happiness still lies within your family.
My friend was my eye opener. I received an SMS from him yesterday telling me that he is very pissed of with his life for even how much he wanted to have something for himself he couldnt afford to have it, becase many times when he tries to please himself its always his family that comes first and he's helpless - a childish attitude, though Im not putting him down but the verge on where he is now is the same where I was, two years ago.
Where I even always question my self, can't I be happy or just be free for even a day? Pitiful as it sounds, but its the reality of life.

That slice of reality always bagged me to these four corners, walled with my endeavor to take a great leap giving me enough adrenaline to withstand everything.
During my early 20's I was like him, very childish. Im only thinking to live by my own but im not happy not until I matured and learned something new day by day.
